Help for a disadvantaged region of Africa

The Nuba Mountains are a region in southern Sudan (South Kordofan Province) inhabited by various indigenous groups collectively known as the Nuba people. The region has been historically marginalized. Together with some Arab pastoralist tribes, they have the geographical challenge of living on the fault line between the largely Arab and Islamic north of Sudan and the predominantly Christian, animist, black African south. During the Second Sudanese Civil War (1983-2005) between the Sudanese government and the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), the Nuba Mountains were hit hard. Despite the precarious situation in Sudan due to the current fighting between the Sudanese government and the so-called "Rapid Support Forces - RSF", the Nuba Mountains have so far not been a focal point of the conflict. Nevertheless, civil wars and violent clashes have led to loss of life, displacement and traumatic experiences. The prolonged conflicts and insecurity in the region have caused psychosocial stress, including trauma, anxiety and depression, which affect the quality of life of the inhabitants.

The project work in the Nuba Mountains consists of the following independent parts:

Organization and operation of schools:
AVC Nuba Mountains maintains a total of 6 schools in different locations of varying sizes with a total of around 1500 students. With the help of satellite internet and an innovative e-learning platform, teachers and individual pupils in remote communities can be offered educational content at university level.

Planting churches:
AVC Nuba Mountains plans to establish church congregations in various villages, providing not only spiritual but also practical support and strengthening the local community.

Infrastructure projects:
Our aim is to improve this situation by drilling wells and then maintaining and repairing them. The construction of wells is intended to give communities access to clean and safe drinking water, which protects their health and improves their living conditions in the long term. One hand-operated well has already been built in the region.

Provision of food:
In addition to these measures, AVC Nuba Mountains regularly distributes food aid to needy families to meet acute needs and help people in distress. In the schools run by AVC, the provision of a daily meal is already a reality. Hunger is a major problem for the inhabitants of the Nuba Mountains.
