Bio-Sandfilters
On April 25, 2015, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 shook Nepal and left it in ruins, followed by numerous aftershocks, some of which were also devastatingly strong, until the end of July. Approximately 8,800 people died, over 22,000 were injured, entire villages were wiped out, and supplies collapsed. The already precarious drinking water supply was exacerbated by the earthquake - numerous wells and springs were destroyed.
After the earthquake, employees of our partners were trained in cooperation with a project manager from Thailand and a local NGO in the production of bio-sandfilters to obtain clean drinking water. In the following years, 2,000 filters were produced and distributed to affected families. The project has since been re-launched to produce more bio-sandfilters.
