Bike Charity Day 2025

The Review

If we had sent a biker, he would have made it all the way to Morocco! The nearly 50 brave cyclists covered a total of over 3,200 kilometers throughout Switzerland. According to current estimates, they have “cycled” more than CHF 100,000 for the two selected projects! The oldest participant was over 80 years old, the youngest rider just four – she was allowed to join in after practicing braking diligently the weekend before... A beautiful illustration of the fact that the charity bike ride is not about performance, but about standing together for people in need.
At the finish line party in Safnern, we enjoyed a barbecue buffet, a homemade bar, and delicious ice cream from the Seeland region with almost 100 guests. Our logistics team spared no effort and transformed the hall, where relief supplies usually wait for transport to Eastern Europe, into a green oasis under olive trees and exotic plants. In this special atmosphere, everyone was able to experience once again how much can be achieved when we work together.

Further information on the projects

Hope for a new generation in Myanmar
For decades, life for Burmese people has been associated with suffering and flight, and Christians suffer additionally from the abuse of power by local authorities. The lack of Bibles has led to immense demand, especially among young people. AVC began bringing Bibles into the country back in 1990. Because the younger generation is also eager to learn English, we are now printing bilingual English-Burmese New Testaments. As they read, young people learn English and get to know Jesus at the same time. AVC has set itself the task of bringing one million bilingual Bibles and thus hope for a new generation to Myanmar – with this project, you too can be part of this vision!
A Bible currently costs CHF 6.70 from printing to reader. The cost of transporting the Bibles to high-risk areas accounts for a large part of this amount.

Help for Congo refugees in Burundi
The situation in eastern DR Congo is coming to a head: fighting between government soldiers and rebels is leading to violence, fear, and insecurity. Over 60,000 people have fled to neighboring Burundi so far. There, AVC is working with a Burundian team to ensure that hardship does not have the last word and that the sustaining hope of Jesus is felt. Specifically, the areas of responsibility are as follows:

  • Pastoral care and trauma counseling for new inner strength,
  • Children's programs including games and exciting Bible stories full of hope,
  • Support for women through sharing, prayer, and practical help,
  • Health through the distribution of urgently needed hygiene items,
  • Evangelism & discipleship – because hope is more than just provision,
  • Sewing & hairdressing services to help people regain a sense of dignity.
