Hope in the madness of war
With the Turkish invasion of northern Syria in October 2019, the already tense refugee situation has dramatically worsened. Sadly, after almost ten years of war, the results are thousands dead, tens of thousands maimed, and 10 million people on the run. In addition, Covid-19 is driving up prices massively and plunging the poor even further into misery. Currently, we hear of remote villages where residents are forced to eat grass in abject poverty.
AVC has been active in northern Syria since 2014. The operation of the bakery by a local team, defies the adverse conditions and toils day after day in a region with 600,000 Syrian civilians and refugees. The "5 Loaves and 2 Fishes" campaign aims to help as many people as possible and bring hope.
At the heart of the campaign is its own bakery, which produces and distributes up to 30,000 loaves of bread every day. In addition, weekly food packages are distributed to 800 families in special need. War-damaged children, widows and elderly people thus have a chance of survival.
