Challenged and Blessed
“I experienced so much in Bulgaria and learned more in such a short time than ever before. Not everything was easy. Above all, the language was a major challenge, as were many cultural differences. It also wasn’t always easy for me to share what God had placed on my heart without being pushy.
As a trained mason, I was able to work on various construction projects. Many things were done differently than in Switzerland. That required patience and flexibility from me—and that’s exactly what was so enriching for me.
It moved me to see how deeply the scars of communism are still present today. Many people view Christianity with great suspicion, and even Christians are often afraid to speak openly about their faith.
Nevertheless, I am convinced that God is at work in Bulgaria. He uses people as His instruments to build His kingdom. That is why I find the work of the ACP partners on the ground incredibly valuable. You can see that it is making a difference—and I can well imagine how many lives have already been transformed by this work and will continue to be transformed.
When I arrived, I never would have thought that this country and its people would grow so dear to my heart. For me, one thing is clear: the chapter on Bulgaria is not yet closed. I am very grateful for this time, for the people who have become my friends and, in some cases, my role models. And I am grateful for everything God has taught me to make His name known—wherever I may go in the future.»
