A Long Journey

AFGHANISTAN
Fleeing, displaced, emigrating: People travel great distances to find a home and a future elsewhere. Sometimes this journey takes an unexpected turn.

Ali* arrives in Austria as a refugee from Afghanistan. There he hears the Gospel and becomes a Christian. His plan is to stay in Austria and build a new life for himself. But when his fiancée Myriam* falls seriously ill in Afghanistan and suffers from uncontrollable bleeding, Ali prays and asks God what he should do. He receives inner peace and clear guidance. So he decides to return to Afghanistan.

Myriam is deeply moved that Ali is making this sacrifice for her. In Afghanistan, Ali is able to care for her and even share the Gospel with her. Nevertheless, the illness remains a challenge. When the Taliban take power, the couple must flee to Turkey. The church there welcomes them with open arms. Myriam grows in faith and realizes that Jesus heals. She trusts Jesus completely and is miraculously and completely healed through the prayers of the church.

Although they cannot stay in Turkey, God opens the door for them to Greece, where they come into contact with ACP. Today, Ali and Myriam lead a small fellowship in the refugee camp that meets weekly. We are deeply blessed to worship God and study the Bible with them and the new believers who have found Christ through them.
